Small steps can unlock big breakthroughs. In The Power of One More, Ed Mylett shows how doing one more—one more try, one more habit, one more act of courage—can reshape your identity, mindset, and results to create lasting success. In this free The Power of One More summary, we’ll outline some of Mylett’s Levers of transformation so that you can use small everyday actions to gain extraordinary results.
What Is the Power of One More?
Extraordinary success isn’t built on massive leaps, but on small, intentional decisions made consistently. Ed Mylett learned this through personal experience, from growing up with an alcoholic father to building a multimillion-dollar business.
What is the “One More” Philosophy?
Drawing from his life, coaching work, and insights from peak performers, Mylett presents a simple yet powerful philosophy: The Power of One More. This approach combines mindset shifts, daily habits, leadership principles, and personal strategies to help you progressively level up—personally, professionally, and spiritually.
In this free The Power of One More summary, we’ll outline 18 levers of transformation you can apply these levers to raise your standards, sharpen your focus, and become the person you were meant to be.
How to Harness the Power of One More?
Here’s a visual summary of all 18 levers. Let’s zoom into 3 of them in detail below.
ONE MORE IDENTITY SHIFT
Your identity is how you see yourself—the collection of your deepest thoughts, beliefs, and expectations. Your identity acts like a thermostat that controls your life conditions, defines your self-worth, and silently controls your results in every area of life.
Your identity is often formed by childhood and life experiences. In other words, it’s not fixed and can be changed, one action at a time. Every time you keep a promise to yourself—whether it’s waking up early or following through on a task—you build self-trust. As your self-image improves, so do your results.
You can’t achieve 100 degrees of fitness, wealth, or love if your identity is stuck at 75 degrees.
To raise your internal thermostat and upgrade your identity, you can use 3 levers:
- Faith: Believe that you were created for more, and your life has purpose.
- Intentions: Set empowering statements each day, like “I’m here to serve, grow, and lead.” Or, “I’m healthy, loving, and successful.”
- Associations: Surround yourself with people who uplift you, and challenge you to grow.
ONE MORE MENTAL FILTER
Your brain doesn’t show you the world as it is; it shows you what it is trained to notice. The Reticular Activating System (RAS) is the mental filter in your brainstem. It sifts through billions of data points and only lets in what’s important to you.
What you focus on gets amplified. The RAS doesn’t judge what’s good or bad. It simply amplifies your beliefs and focus. For example, once you decide to buy a white SUV, you suddenly start seeing white SUVs everywhere. The SUVs were always there, but now your RAS tags them as important.
Once you install a belief (e.g. “I’m great at solving problems”), your RAS finds evidence to prove it. This creates a self-reinforcing loop: beliefs → attention → actions → results → stronger beliefs.
To reprogram your Reticular Activating System and remove mental roadblocks:
• Set a clear goal, e.g. “I want to lose 20 pounds in 6 months.” Focus on what you want (e.g. “I want to be strong and healthy”), not what you don’t want (e.g. “I don’t want to be overweight”).
• Vividly visualize what that looks, sounds, and feels like.
• Repeat daily with conviction and emotion, out loud or in writing.
ONE MORE ATTEMPT
Success is a numbers game. When you feel stuck or discouraged, don’t give up. Just give it one more try.
Ed Mylett compares success to hitting a piñata. You might not see results initially from the first few swings. But if you keep swinging, the piñata eventually bursts open and the reward spills out.
So, don’t quit just before the breakthrough. In 1998, Mylett nearly quit when only 8 people showed up for his business presentation, but he decided to go all in and give it one more shot. That became the turning point of his career, eventually leading to millions in income and impact.
Small steps compound over time to create massive transformation. Learn the power of The Compound Effect here.
• Persist with focus and intention. Know where you’re headed, put in your best effort, and keep adjusting until you reach your goals.
• Believe in your ability to create change. As you push your limits, you learn and expand your capacity. You also develop a quiet confidence that you’re going further than most people ever will.
• When you give your all and “empty your tank,” you make space for new opportunities. and, beliefs, and identity.
