Zero to One

ZERO TO ONE: Notes on Startups or How to Build the Future

By Peter Thiel

Companies like Google, Paypal, Amazon and Telsa became so successful not by copying others, but by creating something totally new, and in so doing, fundamentally changed our world. They moved from 0 to 1, and carved out a monopoly for themselves. This book shares how they achieved that, and how you can get there as a startup.

In this summary, you’ll learn:
• How to uncover “secrets” or truths behind widely-held (but incorrect) beliefs that are relevant for business;
• How to move from zero to one and build a creative monopoly like Google; and
• The 4 characteristics of monopolies, the 3-step process to building a monopoly, and how to set up the right foundation for your long-term success.

Who should read this:
• Entrepreneurs, aspiring entrepreneurs, startup founders, and investors.
• Business leaders, consultants, and anyone interested in business strategy and innovation

    I heard about this book when it came out and thought that there was no way I would read a book on startups. Not that I don’t see great things coming out of some startups, but I am not the only one who has developed a fatigue of the many random startups founded by fellow Silicon Valley dwellers who are engineers, MBAs, or a little bit of both, and of the many other Valley dwellers who claim they want to do a startup without knowing what it will be about!
    After my dad bought a copy in Taipei I decided to take a look. I ended up enjoying it much more than I expected. This is a book of solid, sensible advice on startups, coming from economic principles and common sense…. I would recommend it especially to those currently or thinking of working in a startup, and hopefully this will lead to less and on average better startups being founded. A ten star book I would say. It is simply eye-opening in a very precise way.
    0 to 1 is what we all need to do. It is not incremental improvement but 10x improvement to make this world as sustainable one for human. The concept is definitely applicable to everyone. [Review from Goodreads]
